MAJORS

Athletic Training - Bachelor of Arts

UNCW Athletic Training Education Program is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). UNCW athletic training students receive clinical experience with the intercollegiate sports teams as well as local high schools and physical therapy clinics. The athletic training students have a unique opportunity to go into the operating rooms to observe our team physicians perform surgical procedures like total hip replacements, knee ligament repairs, and shoulder surgeries, to name a few. Athletic training students are given the opportunity to participate in research with the certified athletic training faculty and staff.

Community Health Education - Bachelor of Science

Students completing a B.S. in Community Health Education qualify to take the Certification Exam for the nationally recognized Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential.

Exercise Science - Bachelor of Science

The Exercise Science laboratory provides an outstanding practicable environment because it contains state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation to foster students' acquisition of applied knowledge. Equipment includes: metabolic cart, body composition tracking system, treadmills, cycling Ergometers, Electrocardiography Units, Skinfold Calipers, Hydrostatic eighing machines, and Dynamometers.

Gerontology - MSGRN, MALS, & Graduate Certification

MSGRN - The Master of Science in Applied Gerontology is a 36-hour program built on theoretical foundations supported by the practical application of service-learning, integrating teaching, research and service. MALS - Students may take one of two paths to pursue the 30-hour Master of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in gerontology. Post-Baccalaureate Graduate Certificate in Gerontology - a 15-hour multi-disciplinary post-baccalaureate certifice program in practical gerontology, ideal for professionals wishing to earn a gerontology credential short of a degree in gerontology.

Physical Education and Health (K-12 Teacher Licensure) - Bachelor of Arts

Physical Education and Health graduates complete pre-internship practicum experiences both on and off campus in several of their courses. The practicum experience prepares students to embrace differences in the abilities of other individuals.

Recreation, Sport Leadership and Tourism Management - Bachelor of Arts

Students enrolled in this curriculum are prepared for management positions in a diversity of recreation, sport and tourism settings and for graduate study. the curriculum is based not only on classroom experience but with significant experiential education. As a student, you will find yourself directly and personally involved in planning special events, programming activities for youth and adults, creating business and marketing plans and much more. Graduates find career opportunities in settings such as hotels, resorts, theme parks, convention and visitor centers, private recreation clubs, non-profit community organizations, municipal parks and recreation departments, cruise ships, and meeting and event planning.

Recreation Therapy - Bachelor of Arts

Through four experiential lab courses, students are involved in service learning with Camp Special Time, Camp Lejeune, NC; the Port City Spokesmen Wheelchair basketball team; Accessible Recreation Day, Adapted Water Sports Day, the UNCW Ropes Course, and clinical labs held in local hospitals and treatment programs.
