SVSM 2004 - Coastal Ecology
Students in this course examine biological communities of barrier islands and salt marshes. The course emphasizes application of the scientific method to field ecology. It introduces field methods of ecological data collection, field experimental design, laboratory analysis, and computer data analysis. Students investigate current findings in coastal community ecology concerning competition, herbivory, nutrient enrichment, and response to hurricane disturbance. Furthermore, students choose topics of their interest for research projects that contribute to our understanding of the dynamics among plants, animals, and environment in these coastal communities.
