Criminal Justice Practicum
CRM 490 (3 credits) & CRML 490 (1 Credit)

Course Prerequisites: Senior status, Overall GPA of 2.0 (2.3 in Major)
Course Description:
UNCW’s Criminal Justice Practicum provides students an opportunity to gain real experience in a variety of local criminal justice agencies. It is also designed to provide practical on-the-job experiences to supplement in-class experiences. Students will intern at a minimum of 10 hours a week with the selected criminal justice agency and will also meet 1 hour every week in a class room setting to discuss educational and professional development issues relevant to the internship.
Practicum Objectives:
- Expand and enrich student understanding of the criminal justice system;
- Supplement classroom learning with active real-life learning;
- Understand the daily operations of the agency;
- Apply social science theories and principles to the real world;
- Develop & assess professional knowledge and skill-sets necessary for future employment;
- Help refine career plans and goals.

After carefully reading the practicum manual contact Dr. Shannon Santana (santanas@uncw.edu) to set up a meeting to discuss career plans and internship placement options. You must gain approval from your advisor and meet with Dr. Santana prior to the application deadline.
