A. Purpose.
Establishes policy and guidelines for use of the university marquee.
B. Scope.
Applies to all university departments, university activities, and external groups desiring to use the university marquee.
C. Policy.
1. General Policy.
The university marquee is the only on-campus sign on College Road
announcing events or activities that utilize university facilities; banners
or other types of temporary signs are not permitted. Persons not following
this policy will be denied use of campus facilities.
2. Criteria for Allowable Messages.
- External groups may display messages only for
those events and activities that
utilize campus facilities and are open to the general
public. Contact persons for
external groups using any university athletic facility,
Kenan Auditorium, University
Union, and University Center are to consult with the appropriate
facilities manager
when creating display messages. External groups
using other university facilities
and internal users should consult with the Facilities
Use Coordinator.
- University offices may post messages about campus activities and programs.
- Postings are accepted only from authorized individuals.
A list of authorized
individuals must be provided by the facilities managers
and administrative offices
utilizing the university marquee.
- The university reserves the right to refuse
any requested posting that it deems
inappropriate. Campus policies shall be used as a guideline
when reviewing requests.
3. Multiple Requests.
Multiple requests for use of the marquee during a given time period
are accommodated through alternating displays.
4. Charges for Use of
University Marquee.
External users are charged for the use of the university marquee.
Fees are included in the cost of using facilities and are invoiced and
collected by the facilities managers. Contracts with sponsors of university
activities will include any costs for the use of the marquee. Charges are
waived for public agencies and university-sponsored events and programs.
5. Additional Assistance.
Questions about this policy and the use of the university marquee
should be directed to the Assistant to the Chancellor for Planning at 962-3520.
D. Procedures.
1. Requests for Posting.
All requests for posting to the university marquee are initiated
by a Marquee Posting Request, which must be completed according to the
preparation instructions and forwarded to the Facilities Use Coordinator.
Marquee Posting Requests must be submitted, as appropriate, by the university
department, facilities manager, or external group.
2. Processing of Requests.
All postings to the university marquee are reviewed and processed
by the Facilities Use Coordinator or a designee. Upon request, the Facilities
Use Coordinator will provide information about marquee capabilities and
examples of possible posting formats.

Name of Form: Marquee Posting Request
A. Purpose.
This form is used to request use of the university marquee to display the following:
- Messages concerning university activities and
programs, or
- Announcements by external groups concerning events or activities
which
(1) utilize university facilities and (2) are open
to the public.
B. Where to Obtain Forms.
Blank forms may be ordered from the U-Business Web site.
C. Where to Send Completed Forms.
The Marquee Posting Request is a three-part NCR form. Completed forms should be distributed as follows:
University departmental users:
White: Forwarded to Facilities
Use Coordinator
Yellow: Retained by university department
Pink: Retained by university department
External users:
White: Forwarded to Facilities
Use Coordinator
Yellow: Attached to facilities use contract
Pink: Retained by facility
manager, if applicable, of the university
facility being utilized.
