The
Involvement Carnival is a chance for UNCW students (especially freshmen
and transfer students) to see what involvement opportunities exist
for them on campus and in the Wilmington community. Student Organizations,
UNCW Departments, Religious Organizations (generally local churches),
Community Service Agencies, as well as Local Businesses take part
in this event.
In 2007, we had just over 200 participants. As the Involvement Carnival grows and covers
more space on campus more and more students take notice and look
forward to this annual event where freebies (such as pizza, ice cream,
baked goods, candy, coupons, pens, frisbees, cups and more) abound!
Many student organizations rely on the Involvement Carnival as a recruitment opportunity since many students passing by the tables often stop and sign up to receive
more information about a group.
When is it?
The 2008 Involvement Carnival is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27th and the rain date is set for Wednesday, September 3rd. The carnival will run from 10am-2pm with check-in beginning at 9am.
How does my group get a spot?
Over the summer the Campus Activities & Involvement Center begins accepting Involvement Carnival registrants. We mail information about the event as well as a registration form to past participants. Student Organizations receive notification in their on-campus mailbox in the Involvement Center. UNCW Departments should look on @UNCW and contact the Campus Activities & Involvement Center for a registration form. There is a deadline to sign up, so don't wait until the last minute to get in your information!
Registration Forms:
Student Organization
UNCW Department
Business
Religious Organization
Community Agency
If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please send your contact information to activities@uncw.edu. Be sure to include a contact name, mailing address, phone number and email address, if available.
The deadline for businesses, community agencies/non-profits, religious organizations, and UNCW departments will be Friday, August 15th. The deadline for registered UNCW student organizations will be Friday, August 22nd.
For-profit business participants are required to pay a $150 registration fee, and community agencies/non-profits and religious organizations will each have a $15 registration fee. Returners may notice that the business fee has gone up from last year's fee of $125; this is due to the increasing costs of coordinating the event. These registration fees help the Campus Activities & Involvement Center cover the high cost of rentals and also keeps the event free for student organizations to participate.
What else do I need to know?
We will mail off-campus participants confirmations and further instructions which will also include a campus map indicating where to park, a parking pass for the day, and (if applicable) a receipt. If you've mailed in your registration information and have not received this packet by the first week in August, please call the Campus Activities & Involvement Center (962-3553).
Parking!! Due to construction and a growing student population, parking is limited on campus however we have made special arrangements for all off-campus participants to park in the East Gate Parking Area near the intersection of Hurst and Hamilton Roads right beside the softball field. Your parking pass will only be valid for this location so save yourself the grief of getting a parking ticket and park in this designated area. Parking tickets will not be waived by the event sponsors. See below for information on the event's shuttle service.
Shuttles!! Yes, we will have shuttles running again this year to help our off-campus participants in getting to the event location from the designated parking area. The shuttles will run from 9am - 10:30am and then again from 1:30pm - 3:00pm. We will have three shuttles looping from the event site to the parking area during these times, so if you don't see one when you get there - just wait a minute or two, one should be coming around the corner anytime. This service is free for all participants and will help with your loading and unloading for the event.
It's usually very hot, so bring sunscreen, water and a portable,
battery-operated fan (access to electricity will be limited).
Freebies will attract more people to your table so be sure to keep that in mind and in your budget!
Be sure to have pens and paper for sign-up sheets.
If your group participates year-after-year, consider investing in
a professional banner with your organizations name to drape in front
of your table.
Be sure to note on your registration form if your group has special
needs such as electricity and if you'll be bringing your own tent. We'll make our best efforts to satisfy your requests. (Note: We cannot provide participants with tents nor can we guarantee a shady spot, so bring a tent if you have one, but be sure to let us know if you will have one on site as we will need to make appropriate accomodations.)
