FALL 2008 ADVENTURE TRIPS

Kayak Northeast Cape Fear River

The Northeast Cape Fear River begins in the extreme southern part of Wayne County and flows, with only an occasional inter­ruption of its wilderness character, to confluence with the Cape Fear River outside of Wilmington.  Join the Discover Outdoor Center for this fun and relaxing paddle.

Date: Saturday, August 23 OR Sunday, August 24
Time: 9:00 am - 1:00pm or 2:00 - 6:00 pm; August 24 only at 9:00 am - 1:00pm
Registration Deadline: Friday, Aug. 22, 5 p.m.
Cost: $28 students; $38 faculty/staff/guests

 

Kayak Moores Creek

Moores Creek begins in northwest Pender County and flows south, passing Moores Creek National Battlefield near Currie before joining the Black River. Moores Creek National Battlefield is a half-mile from the put-in.

Kayak Brunswick River

This paddle with the Discover Outdoor Center is a great chance to experience coastal and tidal wetland ecology. Conveniently located near Wilmington in Brunswick County and excellent for people just learning to paddle.

Time: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Registration Deadline: Friday, August 6, 5 p.m.

Sunset Kayak to Harbor Island

Harbor Island is the small island nestled between Wrightsville Beach and the mainland. The sunset and gorgeous scenery on the island make for an incredible afternoon into evening paddle. Join us for this unique experience.

Time: 5 - 9 p.m.
Registration Deadline: Monday, September 1, 5 p.m.
Cost: $28 students; $38 faculty/staff/guests

 

Kayak/Camping at Croatan National Forest

The Croatan National Forest's 160,000 acres of pine forests, saltwater estuaries, bogs and raised swamps called pocosins. Bordered on three sides by the Neuse River, the White Oak River and the Bogue Sound, this forest is defined by water.

Kayak- Trips to Wrightsville Beach

Enjoy the estuaries around Harbor Island, a small island nestled between Wrightsville Beach and the mainland, with the Discover Outdoors Center. The warm water and estuarine trails make this a little known local jewel.

Dates: Saturday, October 18 AND Sunday, October, 19
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. OR 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Registration Deadline: Friday, October 15, 5 p.m.
