Instructional Programs

Campus Recreation instructional programs are non-credit programs that emphasize the development of students' abilities to acquire and apply knowledge learned in a specific program area. Program offerings vary each semester.

 

Adult Learn to Swim - Beginners

This course is designed for adults wishing to learn how to swim or who have had little formal swimming experience. Instruction will be tailored to your needs. Strokes introduced include freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke. Classes held on Monday and Wednesday nights 8:30 - 9:30 p.m., Jan. 23 - Feb. 18. Class limit = 8.

 

Adult Learn to Swim - Intermediate

This course is designed for adults wishing to learn how to swim or who have had little formal swimming experience. Instruction will be tailored to your needs. Strokes introduced include freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke. Classes held on Monday and Wednesday nights 8:30 - 9:30 p.m., March 12 - April 7. Class limit = 8.

 

Aikido

Through aikido we learn to use the principles of harmony and circular motion to control any attack that is directed at us. Not only does Aikido teach one to center oneself while being attacked, it also teaches one to carry this centering off the mat and into their daily lives. This art is very adaptive to people of all shapes and sizes as well as males and females. All levels welcome. Fee of $30.

Shag Dance Class:

Take swing dancing one step further and dance shag to the legendary beach music of our area.

Date: Mondays, Jan. 28 - Feb. 18

Time: 8:45 - 10 p.m.

Location: Aerobics room

Fee: $15 individual/$25 couple

 

Swim Training

Open to UNCW students, faculty and staff. This program will give you up to 60 minutes of one-on-one instruction. Our certified staff can help you develop your skills and endurance. Programs will be tailored to meet your individual needs and goals. Turn in your completed form to the Campus Recreation Office, SRC Lobby Desk, or Pool Deck. Our instructor will contact you to set up your appointment(s).
