What is CARE?
CARE is a resource center located on the second floor of Westside Hall, along with the CROSSROADS, Student Health Services, and the Counseling Center.
CARE is about options. Any student affected by issues of violence and harassment has a variety of options and services available on and off campus. CARE staff will identify and discuss those options with students.
CARE is for survivors. Recovering from sexual assault or relationship violence is a process. Survivors may look for services soon after an event or up to years later.
CARE is for those affected by violence. When someone we love is the victim of a sexual assault or is involved in an abusive relationship, we can feel sad, angry, and helpless. CARE provides information, resources and a place to talk.
CARE engages the campus. Through trainings, programs, and awareness campaigns, the professional staff and peer educators of CARE join our partners across campus in education to raise awareness and change the campus environment.
CARE is a collaboration. Our campus partners include University Police, the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling Center, Health Services, the Women’s Resource Center, and Housing and Residential Life. We work collaboratively with the Rape Crisis Center and Domestic Violence Shelter and Services.
Our Mission
The UNCW Collaboration for Assault Response and Education is the campus initiative dedicated to intervening on a broad spectrum of violent behaviors, including sexual assault, relationship abuse, stalking and harassment.
- We offer a comprehensive range of violence intervention programs, trainings, and educational campaigns to the UNCW campus.
- We respond to students who have been victimized by providing supportive services, including crisis response, individual advocacy and coordination with both on-campus and off-campus resources.
- We provide empathetic consultation to students, faculty and staff who are affected by their own or another's experience with abuse or assault.
- We collaborate with on- and off-campus constituents who are also involved in raising awareness of, intervening on and expertly responding to these issues.
- We work to reduce overt and covert expressions of violence within the campus community.
- We actively promote the maintenance and continuing development of a campus environment characterized by support and respect.
