My role at the Career Center
As a Career Development Counselor at the Career Center, I provide direct career support to individuals majoring in the Arts and Humanities including Communication Studies and English. Additionally I spend time in an afternoon office at University College working with my other large population: deciding students
My career path
I received my undergraduate degree in Food and Nutrition Science from Florida State University. I decided working for my fraternity would be a valuable experience and so I left Nutrition behind for an opportunity to be a Field Secretary/Traveling Consultant for Phi Gamma Delta. During this time I visited 43 states and over 100 college campuses. I decided working with students was my passion and after getting a degree in Higher Education Administration at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I found my way to UNCW.
The rewards in doing what I do
I get to see the look of excitement in the eyes of my students when they finally realize that they have all the tools they need and they are ready to take on the world. When I know I’m helping students to be more successful, that is all the excitement I need to want to come back the next day to rock and roll once again.
My words of wisdom to students
Take advantage of great opportunities that come your way
Don’t worry about your MAJOR. Be concerned, instead, with what skills you are gaining that will be transferable. Remember that 60% of graduates do something outside of their college major.
