My role at the Career Center…..
I serve as the Director of the Career Center, and work with staff, faculty and employers to help provide students the best career and employment assistance possible.
My Career Path….
I am a classic example of a Deciding student. I grew up on a dairy and poultry farm in Arkansas, started college in chemical engineering but got my bachelor’s degree in accounting. After graduation I worked as a supply officer in the Navy, then a wholesale sales rep. I returned to college in Missouri to study photojournalism, but my work in the residence halls showed me that Student Affairs was really a much better fit for me. While working on my master’s degree in counseling psychology I worked in as a GA in the career center and found my true career passion. I’ve now worked in this field for over 25 years.
The rewards in doing what I do….
Watching the joy in others as they discover within themselves passion, learning, accomplishment, resiliency, humor, challenge, strength and success in whatever way they define them. And providing students and staff some support and challenge for that journey.
My words of wisdom to students….
Experience is not what happens to a man. It is what a man does with what happens to him. Aldous Huxley
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. J.W. von Goethe
The pitcher cries for water to carry
And a person for work that is real. Marge Piercy
Do something for somebody every day for which you do not get paid. Albert Schweitzer
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there. Will Rogers
When I’m not on campus….
Spending time with my family. My wife is a HR professional, and my daughter a senior in biological engineering.
Listening to all kinds of music, especially classic and alternative rock. Love other media too- reading, movies, TV.
Also love great food, yard work and small building projects.
