'N the Know: Do most students really have 0 to 5 when they party?
You may have wondered about the CROSSROADS posters and merchandise that says, "Most students have 0 to 5 when they party." Where does that data come from? CROSSROADS gathers this data in our annual surveys with representative sample of UNCW students.
Our 2003 survey, which over 1300 students filled out, continues to show that the 0 to 5 message is true- 72% of students report drinking 5 drinks or less on average when they go out. The breakdown is below:

This survey is conducted biannually to measure faculty and staff beliefs, awareness, and desire for additional training around issues of substance use. Below are some of the university faculty and staff;s beliefs about the effects of substance use.
- 94.5% believe that alcohol and other drug use negatively affects the overall quality of student life.
- 98.4% believe that student academic performance is affected by alcohol and other drug use.
- 56.9% consider the current alcohol and other drug use on this campus to be a problem.
