Position Summary
- A minimum grade point average of 2.5
- A commitment to the concept of substance abuse prevention, including use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs
- A positive outlook with a willingness to face new experiences while maintaining an open mind to other’s lifestyle choices
- Have your own transportation
Position Duties
CROSSROADS College Mentors gain skills in communication, organization, time management, program development and design, evaluation techniques, recruiting, training, supervision of peer educators, the use of audiovisual equipment, office management, and presentation/teaching methods. A College Mentor's duties include the following:
- Attend all regular staff meetings and training events
- Run a weekly meeting at the high school you are assigned
- Assist in the CROSSROADS office and the local high school office; schedule and maintain office hours each week (working around class schedule)
- Guide high school students with regards to conduction education and prevention programs with their fellow students
- Promote abstinence through CROSSROADS Prevention and Education Partnership
programming and activities which encourage the development of healthy
decision making skills and personal responsibility
Substance
Abuse Peer Educator
Position Summary
- a minimum GPA of 2.5
- a commitment to the concept of substance abuse prevention, including use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
- leadership abilities that will facilitate working with educators, students and other peers
- a positive outlook with a willingness to face new experiences while maintaining an open mind to others’ lifestyle choices
- a thorough working knowledge of alcohol and drug issues (after training)
- successful completion of CROSSROADS peer educator training (August 4 & 5, 2005).
Position Duties
A Peer Educator's duties include the following:
- attend regular staff meeting and training events
- assist in the CROSSROADS office schedule and maintain regular hours each week
- develop and execute ideas for events/materials
- attend CROSSROADS events and actively participate in student interactions.
