A Note About Construction on Campus
UNCW is experiencing unprecedented growth. This is a very
exciting time that also brings challenges during periods of heavy
construction. The following tips should help you stay safe and
navigate around campus work zones.
- Do not enter work zones.
- Obey all signs.
- Don’t create a shortcut when construction vehicles
block the road.
- Watch where you are going. Things may change hourly on
campus, and the pathway you took earlier may be blocked or
have items that may catch a walker or cyclist off guard. (For
example, construction fencing can catch on a bike pedal and
cause riders to wreck.)
- Walk bicycles, scooters and skateboards through tight spaces.
- Be extra careful of construction vehicles – especially those
backing up. The driver may not be able to see you.
- Allow extra time in your schedule and expect the unexpected.
- Orange pennant “detour” signs are being installed on campus
to route persons around construction sites. Look for these and
follow their directions.
