Commuter Appreciation Day / Commuter Services Fair
The first day of classes in the fall semester is always designated as Commuter Appreciation Day. This is the day that the Seahawk Perch and the entire university community roll out the red carpet for its new and returning commuter students! The celebration has a dual purpose: to inform new commuter (and non-trad) students about the services that are available for them, and to let the rest of the university community know about the special needs of these student populations. Mailings and emails are routinely sent to university faculty and staff with tips about how to include off-campus students in their programming, and how to help ensure their academic success. The focal point of the day is the Commuter Services Fair, which is usually attended by 600-700 students. At the fair, students may peruse booths from many university offices, departments and organizations who offer services and programs to assist them. It is a very festive event with great information, prizes and giveaways for students! Click here for more information and photos from previous Fairs. Commuter Coffee Breaks Every Wednesday, the Seahawk Perch hosts a Commuter Coffee Break in front of the Perch offices in the Fisher Student Center lobby. Each Coffee Break is hosted by a different on-campus department or organization, allowing students to informally connect with staff from different University entities while learning all about their programs and services. Previous university hosts have included The Chancellor's Office, Career Services, Campus Christian Ministries, The Center for Leadership Education and Service, Crossroads (Substance Abuse Prevention and Education Program), and the Student Government Association. It's a great way to learn more about the University and meet other commuters and non-trads, as well as enjoy FREE coffee, juice & pastries! To find out when the next Commuter Coffee Break is, consult the Seahawk Perch Events Calendar. Perch Pit Stops About once a month, the Seahawk Perch hosts a"Pit Stop" in an area
on campus that is frequently At each "Pit Stop" we distribute great goodies and information about upcoming programs and events of interest to commuter students. Look for the bright yellow "Commuter Scooter."
