SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS Welcome Reception for Military Veterans and Military Spouses On Friday, August 22, campus faculty and staff will host a Welcome Reception for students who are military veterans and military spouses. This reception is scheduled in conjunction with Welcome Week and will be held from 3 until 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Fisher Student Center in the Clock Tower Lounge and Veranda. Light appetizers and soft drinks will be provided. Documenting the Stories of our Veterans World War II: Through the Eyes of the Cape Fear is a joint project between the University of North Carolina's William M. Randall Library and the Cape Fear Museum. The World War II experience was pervasive in the lives of people connected to or now living in Southeastern North Carolina. If you know a WWII vet and would like to arrange to have an interviewer document their story, contact Randall Library at 910.962.3271. To read transcripts or view video clips of local WWII veterans' stories, visit http://capefearww2.uncwil.edu/voices/voices.html. The U.S. Library of Congress Veterans History Project relies on volunteers to collect and preserve stories of wartime service. Stories can be told through personal narratives (audio and video-taped interviews, written memoirs), correspondence and visiual materials. The project's primary focus is on first-hand accounts of U.S. Veterans from the following wars: World War I (1914-1920), World War II (1939-1946), Korean War (1950-1955), Vietnam War (1961-1975), Persian Gulf War (1990-1995), and Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts (2001-present).
