Non-traditional students (non-trads), sometimes referred to as "adult learners," are an extremely diverse group. Those who feel they do not fit the "traditional college student" profile may be considered "non-trads," including undergraduate students who entered college a year or more after high school graduation, are working to support themselves or their families, have dependents in their care, are married or divorced, are serving in the armed forces, or are veterans. Many graduate students may also identify themselves non-traditional. While the Seahawk Perch does not generally collect data concerning the graduate student population, we happily extend all of our services and programs to you, as well as to our esteemed faculty and staff members. Nationally, non-trad students comprise a quarter of the undergraduate population. At UNCW, they make up approximately 20-25% of the undergraduate student population each semester. With their life experiences, non-traditional students add an exciting dimension to the classroom and college experience. The Office of the Dean of Students has designated The Seahawk Perch, UNCW's Center for Commuter & Non-Traditional Student Services, as a point of contact for you.
