LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
How Can I Get Involved?
The University of North Carolina Wilmington offers several opportunities for on-campus students to demonstrate their leadership abilities. We feel that the programs listed below help to complete the full college experience. It's also a great chance to have fun and meet new people!
Residence Hall Association (RHA)
Who we are . . .
The UNCW Residence Hall Association (RHA) is the governing
body over all of the area chapters for the on-campus student population.
RHA holds weekly meetings where student concerns are addressed, and programs
are planned. The Executive Board of RHA is made up of the President,
Vice President of Programming, Vice President of Finance, Vice President
of Administration, Vice President of Public Relations, National Communications
Coordinator, and a National Communications Coordinator In-Training.
In addition to the Executive Board, RHA requires one representative from
each of the residential area chapters to attend weekly RHA meetings.
Any student may attend the meetings throughout the year.
What we do . . .
A large part of what RHA does is campus programming, including
large scale campus events and in-hall activities. RHA also hosts a campus
visitation program for incoming first-year students, and an open forum for
students to bring housing concerns. Students in RHA also attend 2-3
conferences each year. These conferences are a time for student housing
leaders to organize and present successful programs, which can then be shared
with other campuses. Conferences are a time to celebrate school spirit,
teamwork and dedication to the campus community.
Area Chapter of RHA
An integral part of each residence hall area is the involvement of residents. We not only allow students to get involved, we expect it! Each floor, suite, apartment and building has a variety of leadership positions: president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, floor representatives, intramural representatives and two RHA representatives. (The structure and/or names of these positions may vary among different residence hall areas.) The residence hall governments are in Galloway, Cornerstone Hall, International and Honors Houses, Belk, Graham & Hewlett, Suites/Schwartz and the University Apartments. A housing activity fee (included in room cost) is deposited into an account for each residence hall area to utilize for programming purposes. Programs and activities that area chapter typically sponsor include intramural teams, theme parties, dances, community service efforts and leadership development programs.
