Film Advisory Committee

Lumina Theater is primarily programmed by the Film Advisory Committee, a coalition of campus departments and student organizations dedicated to showcasing films which may not otherwise reach the Wilmington community. Students, faculty or staff who wish to participate on this committee are invited to e-mail Sandra Jackson, Film Program Coordinator. You may also call Sandra Jackson at 910.962.7971.

ACE Film Committee
The ACE Films Committee selects the weekend movies for Lumina Theater. UNCW students may to help pick and promote these movies. ACE Films is part of the Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE). If you wish to join the ACE Films Committee, please call ACE at 962.3842 or email ace@uncw.edu .

 

Host a Film in Lumina Theater
If your group, office or business would like reserve Lumina Theater for a film event, please review the Guide for Film Programmers and the Lumina Reservation Policy, below. Then, please review the Lumina Theater Event Schedule to eliminate previously booked dates and times. For rental costs associated with Lumina Theater, please click the Lumina Fee Schedule.

Lumina is currently accepting reservations for the for the 2009-2010 academic year and beyond.

Once you are ready to make your reservation, please e-mail Sandra Jackson, Film Program Coordinator. In your e-mail, please list:

dot Your name and contact information;
dot The organization responsible for the rental fees;
dot Title of the film or program;
dot Desired date, with alternates;
dot Start time;
dot End time;
dot Admission fees, if any;
dot Anticipated attendance;
dot Media formats (DVD, 35mm, CD, PowerPoint, Internet, etc.);
dot Number and type of microphones needed;
dot Number of panel tables for speakers (2 speakers per table);
dot Number of display tables needed near Sharky's Box Office;
dot Catering required or not;
dot Any additional needs or details.

Lumina Theater Reservation Policies

The evening hours in Lumina Theater are primarily reserved for programmers who wish to present films or televised events on our 16’ x30’ screen. 

On rare occasions, a high-profile lecture or non-film event may be scheduled during the evening, if the event requires Lumina’s unique audiovisual capabilities and the audience is guaranteed to exceed 100 people.

During daytime hours, Lumina Theater may be requested for large meetings and lectures, if the audience is guaranteed to exceed 100 people and requires the use of the screen.  

All events in Lumina Theater will be staffed by a Lumina Theater projectionist for the full time of the reservation, with a minimum charge for 3.5 hours of staffing for any film or event lasting two hours or less.  Your Projectionist will arrive a minimum of one hour before your event begins and will remain on the clock until a half-hour after the end of your event. Lumina Theater projectionists and projection manager are members of the Campus Life student staff.

Dates for Lumina Reservations will be made available to programmers according to the following schedule:

Lumina Tier 1: All established Lumina film series programmers, as well as any Governing Student Body Organization planning to program a new film series of three or more dates during the academic year. Reservations will be accepted in August for the following Academic Year.  In August 2009, members of Lumina Tier 1 may start making reservations for the 2010-2011 academic year. 

Lumina Tier 2: Registered Student Organizations and University Departments planning to program a new film series of three or more dates during the academic year.  Any Governing Student Body Organization, Registered Student Organization or University Departments wishing to schedule only one or two film events dates during the academic year. Reservations will be accepted in November for the following Academic Year.  Thus, in November 2009, members of this tier may start making reservations for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Lumina Tier 3: Non-film programmers and external groups for any event. Reservations will be accepted in January for the following Academic Year.  Thus, in January 2010, members of this tier may start making reservations for the 2010-2011 academic year.
