The Seahawk Perch, UNCW's Center for Commuter & Non-Traditional Student Services, happily extends all of our resources and services to UNCW's growing population of graduate students. Whether you need off-campus housing assistance, information about UNCW's plethora of services, or even child care, we can help. We also collaborate closely with the Graduate School and the Graduate Student Association (GSA) to regularly offer programs and events that will appeal to graduate students. How Can I Get Involved in Graduate Student Life at UNCW?
- Check out events sponsored by our office specifically for graduate students. Look for email announcements in your UNCW student email account sent out by the Graduate School or check our own events calendar for more information. Previous events have included panel discussions about grad student life, financial planning, and tax preparation workshops for first-time home buyers, and presentations about advanced research techniques for grad students.
- Join the Graduate Student Life Programming Committee (GSLPC), which consists of members of the Office of the Dean of Students, the Graduate School and the GSA. We invite your input and participation! If you would like to serve on the committee, volunteer to staff or promote events, or simply offer your ideas for upcoming programs, we'd love to hear from you. - Become a member of the Graduate Student Association. The GSA meets regularly on campus and their mission is to "encourage, recognize, and assist all graduate students academically and socially, as well as to promote the interests and welfare of graduate students within the university." Tutoring Positions available at the University Learning Center
Are you looking for a way to make some extra money while working toward your graduate degree? The University Learning Center (ULC) accepts applicants to be subject tutors year-round. The ULC offers content tutoring for all Basic Studies courses as well as particular courses that are traditionally more difficult. Due to the variety of courses we tutor, we are always looking for qualified tutors who are available to tutor particular courses. Writing Center Services Available to Grad Students
Our peer writing tutors work with graduate students on all academic and professional writing, including thesis writing and application essays. Lengthy documents may require more than one session! Documents that are longer than 15 pages must be “dropped-off” for the peer tutor to read prior to the consultation (peer tutors will not make any corrections to or marks on papers that have been dropped-off).
