UNCW's beautiful coastal setting certainly makes it an attractive choice for students who are seeking strong academic programs in a pristine location! Unfortunately, this same location makes Wilmington a prime target for an occasional hurricane or tropical storm. The best way to "weather" a storm of this nature is to be prepared! If you live off campus, but your family lives outside of the Wilmington area, the following information will be helpful:
- Hurricane season starts June 1 and ends November 30 each year.
- Review the university's Official Hurricane Policy. Here you will learn what you need to do as a student during the Hurricane Watch, Warning, and Mandatory Evacuation phases.
- Check out this website offered by the Wilmington Star News. There is lots of valuable information, and even a pocket hurricane awareness guide you can print out and keep.
