Founded in 1948 as a mimeograph with hand-lettered headlines, The Seahawk today is UNCW's award-winning weekly campus newspaper, composed, produced and distributed entirely by students. Nearly three-quarters of The Seahawk's revenue is earned through advertising sales and service; the remainder of funding comes from student fees.
The print edition of The Seahawk (circ. 5000) is distributed free to nearly 60 locations on and off campus. The online edition of The Seahawk launched in February 2001.
