FAQs

Are linens provided if I stay on-campus for orientation?

Yes linens are provided for no additional charge.
Please note that there are no overnight accommodations available in January or August.

Can I change my orientation date?

An orientation date can be changed only 1 time, and only if the session that you want to move into is open. If there is a price increase because of the change, you will be required to pay the fee at the time the change is made.  Call the transition programs office at 910-962-3089 to make the change. You will not receive written confirmation of the change.

What if I can't attend one of the scheduled orientation dates?

You will need to call transition programs at 910-962-3089 to schedule a make-up session. Make up sessions will be held after all orientation sessions are completed and will be an abridged version of what was offered. The same orientation fees are required for make-up sessions. You cannot register for classes until you have attended a make-up session.

As a student am I required to live in the residence halls during orientation?

No. However we encourage freshmen to live in. It is an opportunity to meet other students. In addition, your orientation schedule will keep you busy between 7:45 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Most students find it more convenient to stay on campus.

I need to leave before 5 p.m. on day 2 of orientation can I register for classes early?

No. You may finish prior to 5 p.m. but we cannot guarantee it.

Are all the orientation programs offered at orientation required?

Yes, all the programs for students are required. If you do not attend all of orientation you will not be allowed to register for classes until you attend a complete orientation program. We believe that orientation is important to a smooth transition to UNCW and your success as a student.

Should parents attend orientation?

Yes, it is important (but not required) that parents attend orientation . We encourage parents to attend because you have so many good questions and concerns about college life that your students have not considered. Parents have a separate program and will hear information that will help students adjust to UNCW. We want and need your participation!

I am a parent from the Wilmington area should I attend orientation?

Yes, you know Wilmington and have probably been on-campus before, but orientation is much more than a campus tour. It includes lots of valuable information that you wouldn't know just by living in this area. Even university staff who have children attending UNCW have benefited from orientation . You can never have too much information about what your student will be experiencing.

What is included in the registration fee?

The freshman student fee includes: all meals (2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and dinner); 1 night stay in the residence hall; social activities and all materials. It also includes programs throughout the first year to assist in your transition to UNCW.

The parent fee includes: 2 continental breakfasts, 2 lunches, and materials including, the Parent's Guide. Dinner will be on your own. The August orientation is one day only and includes 1 breakfast and 1 lunch, as well as materials.

The Transfer student fee included: breakfast and lunch; and materials.

When do I register for classes?

You will register for classes at the end of orientation with the assistance of academic advisors.

Can I register for classes before orientation?

No.
