"SI provides the unique opportunity for students to learn in an interative setting, from their peers. It is a great tool for sharing information, acclimating to college life, meeting new people, and boosting grades. I am looking foreward to a stellar year."

SI is a means for students to engage in academic discourse in an informal and somewhat social atmosphere.  This peer-centered environment allows for the discussion and relation of course content to broader topics of interest and relevance.  By utilizing group strategies and teamwork, students become more proficient in course content all-the-while understanding what it means to be a member of the University’s community, a community of scholars.  Oh, SI sessions are also a place to see that learning can be fun…yes, even cell biology.

“S.I. sessions are a great opportunity for students to stay on top of the material. By working in groups and doing activities not normally experienced in the classroom, it's my hope to create an environment where students with different ability levels are able to increase their knowledge and also have a good time getting to know one another."

"SI is a group of hungry mice all searching for a snack.  Alone, they only collect a meager amount of crumbs.  However, when they band together their meager findings create an accomplished feast."

"SI is the perfect opportunity for students of all skill levels to join together and discuss troubling topics.  The sessions allow a comfortable, friendly, and informal environment for students to develop a better understanding of the material.  Students attending the sessions, as well as, the SI instructors are able to use their peers to learn new ways to figure out problems and easier ways to remember and understand concepts.  I am excited to get to work and help out students who are experiencing the same difficulties I faced in Chemistry."

SI sessions are the absolute perfect place for students to strengthen their grasp in a certain subject area.  The comfort of being with your peers, along with someone experienced in the subject, lends itself well to creating a very welcoming and educational environment.  SI extends the typical classroom material into another dimension, where classroom learning turns into hands-on learning, which propels students to places they never thought they could go.

"SI helps me to remain proficient in the subject matter which I am selected to facilitate. I come from a family of teachers and I am very passionate about passing on my knowledge and assisting other students."

"Supplemental Instruction is a way for student leaders to help fellow peers learn how to study better and guide them to become better students overall. Adapting to a studious college environment can be overwhelming at times; keeping up with all your studies and homework can be extremely difficult. We leaders are there to help students learn how to prepare themselves for certain classes by helping them with homework, study skills, and answering any specific questions they might have about the course material. I am a Physics and Mathematics double major at UNC-Wilmington and have participated in summer internships at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerating Facility (Jlab) in Newport News, Virginia, as well as at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, under the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. I have been an SI leader for Physics students for over a year now and am now a CRLA Regular Certified Tutor. I hope to show my fellow peers new ways to improve their study habits that will help prepare them for solving problems in Physics!"

PHY 201/202

"Physics is the most fundamental of all the studies, applying the pure logic of mathematics to the world around us, and in turn becoming the basis for every single other branch of science and art. While this can make physics one of the most difficult studies, it also makes it one of the most rewarding. SI provides that extra something to help students succeed in the discipline, whether that be a review of the material, familiarization with the math, an alternative perspective, or simply more practice."

SI is open, opportunistic, exciting, quintessential, and overall beneficial to all students.  Sessions allow students to learn from someone with a lot of experience and, more importantly, to teach themselves and others. I enjoy working with a variety of people and I hope that everyone attends my sessions because I aim to make learning fun.

"SI, to me, is a great opportunity for any student at any level to better understand their course material. SI also allows students to work together and network, an important tool for all college students."
