| Financial Aid & Veterans Services All students who wish to receive financial aid for Summer School must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal FAFSA. In addition to the FAFSA, a separate "UNCW Summer School Application" must be completed. Visiting students must apply through their home institution to receive financial aid for summer attendance to UNCW. Your financial aid file must be completed by July 10, 2008 in order to receive a financial aid award for Summer. Limited financial aid is available for students attending Summer School at UNCW. Most students can only receive Federal Stafford Loans and Federal Pell Grants based on remaining eligibility from the previous academic year. PLUS loans are also available. Full-time status for undergraduates in the summer is 12 credit hours (combined total from Summer I and Summer II). Graduate students must be enrolled for 9 credit hours (combined total from Summer I and Summer II) to be considered full-time. Graduate students who are taking thesis hours or are teaching assistants or research assistants are also considered full-time. Students must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for the Federal Stafford & PLUS Loan Programs. Summer School coursework is subject to the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy for Financial Aid Eligibility detailed in the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogues. Auxiliary Services Office University College The University College is the academic home for all freshmen and for sophomores who have not yet declared their majors. The University College Advising Center is located in Westside Hall, University College, Room 1092. It is staffed by professional academic advisors year round. Students attending summer school are welcome to stop in at the Advising Center to get help with course selection, major requirements, choice of major, clarification of academic rules and regulations, or for any other academic problem or question. Our advisors are eager to help. In addition to providing academic advising to over 3000 underclass students, the University College also coordinates the offering of the Freshman Seminar and the new Learning Communities courses during the regular academic year. Office of the Dean of Students The Office of the Dean of Students is committed to student growth and self-responsibility by serving as student advocates and as a central resource for addressing student issues and concerns. Through collaboration with the university and Wilmington community, we provide assistance to all students, faculty and staff through policy clarification, conflict resolution, grievance procedures, confidential consultations and crisis management/intervention. Our mission is to foster a respectful and dynamic community that affirms the value and contributions of each individual, and which harbors democracy, civility and diversity as paramount values. In addition to advocating for students, our office develops opportunities for campus involvement through Fraternity and Sorority Life, Off Campus and Non-traditional Students Services and values education. Community standards are communicated through the Code of Student Life, and we adjudicate academic and behavioral violations through the campus conduct system. At the core of conduct proceedings is the education of the individual student balanced with consideration of the welfare of the university community. The entire office staff is invested in the success of each and every student, and we invite you to access us as partners in successfully completing your education at UNCW. On-Campus Housing Housing for summer sessions is available on campus in Belk Hall (singles and doubles) and in two select University Apartments (singles). 2008 Summer School Housing Rates are as follows: Single Room Rate $518.00 per five-week session Double Room Rate $422.00 per five-week session Students residing on-campus during Summer School will need to have a meal plan. In order to receive housing information, students must specify on their admission application an interest in on-campus housing. For more information, click UNCW Housing & Residence Life to visit their web site or contact: UNCW Office of Housing and Residence Life Parking Summer sessions students who drive or park a vehicle on campus must register their vehicles and purchase a $60 parking permit at the Auxiliary Services office located on Riegel Road in the back of the Warwick Center. Charges will be made to your student account (tuition/fee bill). The 2008-09 permits are valid through August 15, 2008. For more information call 910.962.3178. Postal Services Full mail service, including FAX and Express Mail, is available year round. Resident students are assigned a post office box number and boxes are available to nonresident students upon request. Summer operating hours are 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 a.m. on Friday. Postal Services is located in the Warwick Center. Postage may be purchased at the Post Office window or through the stamp vending machine located in the Post Office lobby. For further information, call customer service at 910.962.3750. Seahawk Shuttle Shuttle service and WAVE Transit service are available free to all UNCW students with your UNCW One Card. Shuttle service is available Monday-Friday. Student Development Services The Counseling Center provides individual and group counseling for personal, social, or substance abuse concerns. Counselors are available to consult with faculty, staff, parents, and students who are concerned about student problems. Disability Services provide students and faculty with assistance and information to allow full participation in all academic courses and activities and in meeting the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The National Testing Program administers the following exams on campus as well as provides the bulletins of information for: GRE, GMAT, PRAXIS, LSAT, AHPAT, MAT and CLEP. Computer-based testing is available for selected exams. The Student Health Center provides personal health service for eligible students. These services are designed to promote and maintain health and wellness, and include a preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic focus. Students are assisted with referral and linkage to other service agencies in the community. Pharmacy services for students are available on campus and are provided by a full-time registered pharmacist. In addition to stocking a wide variety of prescription medications, the pharmacy can provide crutches and some non-prescription medication for the students' convenience. Wellness Services manages programs that include peer education, consumer health opportunities, and direct care offerings with professional health consultants. Additionally, the program regularly sponsors health and wellness events on campus. Crossroads, the Substance Abuse Prevention and Education Program is an integrated, centralized service that provides education, training and promotes awareness about alcohol, tobacco and other drug use to all campus constituencies. Resources include peer education programs which address a range of substance abuse issues, special events to promote awareness and prevention, a resource library, individual and group education, consultation and training, and referrals. University Learning Services provides academic support to currently enrolled UNCW students at no charge. Tutoring is available for Basic Studies courses and all academic writing at any level. Individual support is also available in the development of academic skills such as note taking, time management and textbook reading. Services are by appointment, with some walk-in help available for writing. All of the above services are located in Westside Hall. University Bookstore Summer operating hours are 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday, 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. Refunds for summer session textbooks are accepted during the first week of classes, and must be accompanied with a receipt. The UNCW Bookstore carries all the academic items needed for your success, in addition to supplies, general books, and UNCW clothing and gift items. It’s your ID for admissions to UNCW sporting, arts and entertainment events, to ride the Seahawk Shuttle and WAVE transit buses free, to open the doors at your residence hall and academic and administrative buildings (as authorized), to check out materials at Randall Library, to gain access to the rec center, computer labs and the iPrint system, and for making purchases at all campus dining locations using your food dollars. William Madison Randall Library Randall Library provides access to an extensive range of online print, microform, and multimedia resources. Experienced and friendly staff members are available to help students identify and locate information sources relevant to their research needs. Special services, such as interlibrary loan and librarian- mediated computer database searching, are also available to students.
The library's online system provides the catalog to the library's resources and serves as a gateway to many other databases. More than 230 databases provide access to a rich collection of articles, manuscripts, music images and other specialized full-text and data resource. The library provides 24/7 online access to more than 25,000 full text journals.. In addition to using the workstations provided in the library, the system can be accessed outside the building on the World Wide Web at http://library.uncw.edu/
