Greetings from Me!  The semester is fast approaching its end and I know we are all feeling a little stressed.  But never fear, we are all in this together and we stand ready to offer support (and candy!).  I have been so impressed with the work of the committees and chairs.  It's been great to see Fellows attending events, recruiting prospective Fellows and representing UNCW at such a high level.  Zack and Amy have been working quite hard and I appreciate their efforts along with Lesley's to make this such an awesome program.  I wish you the best for November and December as we enjoy fall (at some point!) and look forward to some well-deserved time off!

See you in class,
KB

Tutoring Opportunities

  • A group of 3 second graders at Johnson Elementary school need help with their math in preparation for the end of semester test in December.  They need a tutor for the weeks of 11/26-30 and 12/3-7.
  • A Spanish I tutor is needed for a high school student at NHHS; it is a paid position.

Be Careful How You Word Your Questions!!

Teacher:   Maria, go to the map and find North America please.
Maria: Here it is.
Teacher: Correct. Now class, who discovered America?
Class: Maria!

Teacher:  John, why are you doing your math multiplication on the floor?
John: You told me to do it without using tables.

Teacher:  Glenn, how do you spell "crocodile"?
Glenn: K-R-O-K-O-D-I-A-L
Teacher:  No, that's wrong.
Glenn:  Maybe it is wrong, but you asked me how do I spell it.

Teacher:  Donald, what is the chemical formula for water?
Donald: H I J K L M N O
Teacher:  What are you talking about?
Donald: Yesterday you said it's H to O

Teacher:  Winnie, name one important thing we have today that we didn't have ten years ago.
Winnie: Me!

Teacher:  Glen, why do you always get so dirty?
Glen: Well, I'm a lot closer to the ground than you are.

Teacher: George Washington not only chopped down his father's cherry tree, but also admitted it.  Now, Louie, do you know why his father didn't punish him?
Louie:  Because George still had the ax in his hand.

Teacher:  Now, Simon, tell me frankly, do you say prayers before eating?
Simon: No sir, I don't have to. My mom is a good cook.

Teacher:  Clyde, your composition on "My Dog" is exactly the same as your brother's.  Did you copy his?
Clyde: No, teacher, it's the same dog.

Teacher:  Harold, what do you call a person who keeps on talking when people are no longer interested?
Harold: A teacher.

Hello all,

Well, we have finally reached the first week of November and I can see the end of the semester on the horizon.  The Teaching Fellows here at UNCW have been quite busy and I can see that with the multitude of activity report forms that are crossing my desk on a daily basis.  Never have our Fellows been so engaged or involved in what we are doing as a program.  As your president, I am quite proud of our accomplishments.  We have bridged the gap with the community through our involvement with the Halloween Carnival and Oktoberfest.  The Teaching Fellows were well represented at Seahawk Saturday and Family Weekend!  Our presence is being felt and I am sure we will see ripple effects in the days ahead.  A group of Fellows will be heading to Campbell University in the coming days as we attempt to build a strong relationship with a young, new group of Fellows.  Thank you for all you do!!!!  Continue to be persistent in your involvement as we move full-throttle towards 2008!!!!!  I wish everyone the best during this time of advising!!!!

Sincerely yours,
-Zack Grant
