Community Outreach:
We thank Katie Blalock and Justin Fischetti for chairing the Outreach Committee this year. Our new chairs for 2007-2008 will be Breana van Velzen and Caroline Medford.
Summary of 2006-2007:
The Community Outreach Committee spent a great deal of time during the first semester reaching out for the UNCW community. In the fall, committee members were engaged in a campus-wide cleanup. October brought the annual Oktoberfest to Mayfaire, and Community Outreach volunteered to lead various kids’ games. With the end of the semester in December, the committee delivered 150 toys for “Toys for Tots.” In February, Community Outreach coordinated the writing of Valentine’s cards to patients on the Pediatric and Oncology floors at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Conferences/Travel:
We thank Ryan Byrd and Tana Sisler for chairing Travel and Conferences this year. The two committees are fusing as one, and the chairs for 2007-2008 will be Tana Sisler, Maryanne Garris, and Jessica Marva.
Summary of 2006-2007:
Conferences: Coordinated the Council Retreat in January. The committee has also done some excellent research and planning for conference activities next year.
Travel: For a break from school, the Travel Committee provided a unique experience: a Murder Mystery Dinner at the House of Blues in February.
Publicity:
We thank Jacqui Dalessio and Natalie Cicero for their service on the Publicity Committee this year. We welcome Lauren Abernethy and Haley Fields as the committee chairs for 2007-2008.
Summary of 2006-2007:
This year, Publicity Committee worked hard to promote the programs of the Teaching Fellows Program here at UNCW. Under the direction of the committee chair, the committee developed a new newsletter to keep the Fellows informed!
Recruitment:
We thank Anna Liles and Sarah Payne for their excellent work as chairs for the Recruitment Committee this year. Our new chairs for 2007-2008 will be Madison Horeth and Melody Wells .
Summary of 2006-2007:
In the fall, the Recruitment Committee sent fellows out to their respective high schools to identify prospective scholarship recipients and UNCW Teaching Fellows. Committee members met with students and shared interview techniques with prospective fellows. Recruitment Committee members set up a booth at the annual UNCW Admissions Day. In the spring, Fellows hosted New Hanover County High School students who were interested in becoming teachers for a campus tour and lunch.
Social:
We thank Lauren Bailey and Keith Wellmon for their work on the Social Committee this year. The 2007-2008 committee will be chaired by Shannon Owens with Lauren Bailey as her co-chair.
Summary of 2006-2007:
The Social Committee maintained an active schedule over the course of the year. In the fall, committee members volunteered as face painters for the annual Family Weekend. Fellows worked at the Halloween Carnival and they organized the Schwartz Reunion for past and present Fellows who lived or are living in Schwartz Hall. Under the direction of Lauren Bailey, the committee also produced a favorite amongst the Fellows, the Bonfire at the beach.
