Teaching Fellows Program

Service Opportunities

1.At Junior Achievement, we give young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. Our programs are 100% volunteer driven and reach students grades Kindergarten through High School. Our corporate and community volunteers visit the classroom to deliver relevant, hands-on experiences that give students knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship.

JA programs empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world – enhancing the relevance of their classroom learning and increasing their understanding of the value of staying in school. Volunteers commit to teaching 5 in classroom sessions, which are 30-45 minutes long. The sessions can be taught over the course of a week or once a week for 5 weeks and take about 20 minutes to plan for. Junior Achievement supplies all program materials and serves as a liaison between teachers and volunteers. If you are interested in volunteers, please contact Volunteer & Community Relations Manager, Courtney Hickman @ chickman@jacarolinas.org/910.762.3690.

2. The YEZ is seeking volunteers to be greeters/monitors at Snipes Academy during the crucial transition times of before school (7:30-8am), lunch (11am - 1pm: any amount of time in that period), and after school (2:30 - 3pm).  In addition, Communities in Schools is seeking volunteers to be tutors for middle and high school students either after school (3:30 or 4pm - 5-ish) or during school (which would be coordinated with students' teachers). If any students are interested in getting involved, you can have them contact me directly or they can sign up through www.1800volunteer.org.  Or, of course, you can send me the contact information of anyone interested and I can take it from there.
