Scott Nice is Assistant Professor of Voice & Movement training at the University of North Carolina’s Department of Theatre where he also serves as the departments Fight Director. Professor Nice holds an MFA in Acting from Northern Illinois University, a BA in Theatre Performance from Western Michigan University and is a graduate of the American Musical Dramatic Academy. He is the resident voice and movement instructor for Master Acting Teacher Kathryn Gately in her intensive actor training program (http://www.theactingintensive.com/). He is owner operator of Studio Nice, Body/Voice Training for Performance and Life. Professor Nice is certified as an Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework® http://www.fitzmauricevoice.com/ and is fully trained in the Kristin Linklater and Arthur Lessac voice techniques. He specializes in dialect coaching and dialect reduction training for work on stage and screen. Some of his former students include actors from television major motion pictures, including; Micah Alberti (Matt Ritter on Wildfire), Justin Bruening (Mike Tracer on Knight Rider) and Logan Huffman recently working with such directors as Martin Scorsese and Wes Craven. In additional to his specialization in vocal coaching Scott has been working with students for over 20 years on stage combat techniques since his certification with the Society of American Fight Director (SAFD: http://www.safd.org/) in 1987. He has served as a Fight Director/choreographer for over 50 productions. Scott is an active member of the Association for Theatre and Higher Education (ATHE: http://www.athe.org/), the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA: http://www.vasta.org/), and the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF: http://www.kcactf.org/). He is also the Associate Editor of the International Dialect of English Archive for the state of Iowa (http://web.ku.edu/idea/). Professor Nice has taught at Northern Illinois University’s School of Theatre and Dance, and the Theatre Departments of the University of Northern Iowa, Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College. He has worked as a professional actor and mime for over 20 years working all over the Midwest and Western Europe and has done numerous voice-overs and radio and television commercials.
