Orientation
Welcome, New Seahawks!
Orientation Registration for Summer & Fall 2013
is open. Register Now!
If you are experiencing trouble registering through the Teal Ticket, stay in MySeaport and click on the "Student Services" tab. On the left hand side scroll down to "Orientation Sign-up" Click on that and you should be able to register.
Our Orientation program is designed to help you make a smooth transition to UNCW. You will learn what you need to know to make a successful academic and personal adjustment to UNCW.
Class registration, placement testing, and information about services
provided to students are integral parts of learning about a new place and a new
experience. Orientation is also a time for you to become more familiar with
the
campus
and what we have to offer.
You will also meet some of your future classmates, friends, and faculty.
Because we consider this information vital to your academic success, all first-year students at UNCW are required to attend orientation.

fee?
The Freshman student fee includes: All meals for the time you will stay on campus, 1 night stay in the residence hall (June sessions only), a tote bag and t-shirt, workshops and presentations, social activities, all
advising materials, and parking. It also includes programs throughout the first year to assist in your

The Transfer family fee includes: breakfast and lunch, a tote bag and t-shirt, workshops and presentations, informational materials, and parking.
Can I
change my Orientation date?
An Orientation date can be changed only one time, and only if there is a spot
available in the session to which you want to move. If there is a price increase
because of the change, you will be required to pay the fee at the time the
change is made. Please be aware that we cannot take credit card payments over
the phone, so a check, money or cash are required for any fee increases. Call
the Office of Transition Programs at 910.962.3089 to make the change.
What if
I cannot attend one of the scheduled Orientation dates?
You will need to call the Office of Transition Programs at 910.962.3089 to
schedule a make-up session. Make-up sessions will be held after all Orientation
sessions are completed and will be an abridged version of what was offered.
Please be aware that these sessions also take place after all new students have
registered for class. You cannot register for classes until you have attended a make-up
session and meet with an advisor. We will do everything possible to coordinate with your advisor but ultimately, it is up to you to make yourself available at his/her availability. The same Orientation fees are required for make-up
sessions.
As a student, am I
required to stay in the residence halls during Orientation?
No. However we encourage freshmen to stay in the residence hall as it is an
excellent opportunity to meet other students. In addition, your Orientation
schedule will keep you busy between 7:45 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Most students find
it more convenient to stay on campus.
If I have signed up for
Early Arrival, but my plane is delayed, will I still be able to check-in at the
dorms?
Yes. Go to the Residence Hall listed on your confirmation letter. The desk receptionist will call the staff assistant to let you into your room.
If I need to leave
before 5 p.m. on the final day of my Orientation, can I register for classes
early?
No. Attendance is required at all Orientation programs prior to registering
for classes. While you may finish prior to 5 p.m., we cannot guarantee it.
Are all the
Orientation programs offered at Orientation required?
Yes, all the programs for students are required. If you do not attend all of
Orientation sessions required, you will not be allowed to register for classes. We believe that
Orientation is important to a smooth transition to UNCW and your success as a
student. If you miss a program, you will be required to come back during the
next available session in order to complete orientation. You will not be able
to register prior to attending all Orientation programs.
Are linens
provided if I stay on-campus for Orientation?
Yes, linens are provided at no additional charge. Please note that there are
no overnight accommodations available during the May, August, or January
Orientation sessions.
Should family members attend
Orientation?
Yes. It is important (but not required) that parents attend orientation . We
encourage parents to attend because they have so many good questions and
concerns about college life that students might not have considered. Parents
will attend a separate program and will hear information that will help students adjust
to UNCW.
I am
a family member from the Wilmington area. Should I attend Orientation?
While you might have been on-campus before, Orientation is much more than a
campus tour. It includes lots of valuable information that family members might not
know just by living in Wilmington. We believe families can never have too much
information about what their student will be experiencing.
Can a family member assist me in registering for classes?
While we encourage family members to review possible course schedules with their
students prior to orientation, family members are not permitted in the registration
room. Students will be assisted by academic advisors when
choosing their classes.
