Chancellor's Letter
WelcomeChancellor DePaolo

Welcome to the Troubled Waters educational Web site! This site was developed as a supplemental tool for UNC Wilmington’s documentary, Troubled Waters: The Illusion of Abundance, which is UNCW’s fifth documentary project.

With each project, we have tackled issues of importance to citizens of North Carolina and beyond. This one, for instance, shows how the precious and finite resource of fresh water is becoming scarcer throughout the world, with significant impacts on human health and economic development and often leading to political conflicts. It is truly something that affects us all.

While the Troubled Waters documentary tells a compelling story and challenges everyone to take a proactive role in conserving and managing water, the Troubled Waters Web site takes this idea further. The site is filled with information to help individuals at every step in the process of understanding this complex challenge.

Although there are many components in the site, we are most proud of the curriculum designed for middle and high school students. Our young minds of today are the decision makers of tomorrow. We must give them every opportunity to learn creatively about environmental and social issues. However, the curriculum and lessons are only a small part of this site. There are information and resources that everyone can utilize. All age groups can benefit from this educational venue.

I hope you will take the time to review the entire site. Thank you for visiting.

Sincerely,
Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo
