Information for New Transfer Students

UNCW welcomes over a thousand new transfer students each year. We want to make every effort to assure that new transfer students make a smooth transition to UNCW. As part of that commitment, we send teams of admissions counselors and academic advisors to many community colleges in eastern North Carolina to advise prospective transfer students on course requirements and transfer credit arrangements. We hope that the information provided in the Web site will perform a similar function and help prospective transfer students in their academic planning.

When an applicant is accepted and a tuition deposit received, the Registrar will prepare a transfer credit evaluation. Before you register, your advisor will be able to help you with course selection, based in part on how your courses have been evaluated. At Orientation, it will be important for you to inform your advisor of any courses you have just completed in your previous college that had not yet been received by UNCW and, therefore, were not reflected on the transfer credit evaluation. Finally, UNCW has a core curriculum, called Basic Studies, which all students must complete to earn a degree here.

Incoming students will also receive information from UNCW's Orientation program inviting them to sign up for one of three transfer orientation sessions--one each in May, June and August. All new students at UNCW must attend Orientation, where they will receive academic advising and register for classes.
