As its senior class gift, the UNCW Class of 2008-2009 has elected to support the university’s newly created UNCW Sustainability Fund, which enhances sustainable practices at UNCW.
The fund will serve to enhance and promote recycling, waste reduction and water conservation as well as the social and economic aspects of sustainability.
"Sustainability is a big initiative on campus. Our gifts to the UNCW Sustainability Fund will allow us not only to preserve our class but also preserve our campus,” Brian DesRoches, SGA Senior Class President and Chair of the Senior Class Gift Committee.

More than 400 seniors responded to an online survey to vote on three options for their class gift: the UNCW Sustainability Fund, a class contribution to the UNCW Fund or a class contribution to the Student Government Association (SGA) Scholarship. The UNCW Sustainability Fund received fifty-three percent of the votes.
