Students on UNCW Campus

Catalogue Years and University Studies

General Information and Policies

  • Freshmen and Reenrollees are not granted the exception back one-level for General Education Requirements, even if they attended a North Carolina Community College.
  • Only Transfers who attended a North Carolina Community College can receive the exception back one-level for General Education Requirements, and only for 2011 - 2012 and 2012 - 2013 catalogue years. The idea was that they would have been advised what transfers from a North Carolina Community College based on the existing UNCW General Education Requirements.
  • Student type (Freshman, Transfer, Reenrollee) is defined in Banner on the SGASTDN screen. On the same screen, catalogue year, history, and status (ex: Academically Ineligible) can be viewed. For questions, contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar@uncw.edu.
  • Any transfer or continuing student may change their catalogue year back under the following conditions:
    • They were enrolled at UNCW during that catalogue year,
    • Their catalogue year has not expired, and
    • The major they want to declare existed in that catalogue year.

Reenrollees

  • Reenrollees are not granted the exception back one-level for General Education Requirements, even if they attended a North Carolina Community College.
  • Reenrollees are placed into the catalogue year in which they re-enroll.
  • Reenrollees can change their catalogue year back under the following conditions:
    • The previous catalogue year has not expired (catalogue years expire after six years), and
    • The reenrollee left in good academic standing, or
    • The reenrollee is a senior with 89 hours or more, was previously academically ineligible, and is given an exception and allowed to change their year back.
  • If a prior UNCW graduate (or any other UNC sister institution graduate) re-enrolls, the following requirements are waived:
    • Phase I University Studies requirements:
      • Composition
      • Lifetime Wellness
      • Mathematics and Statistics
      • Aesthetic, Interpretive, and Literary Perspectives
      • Historical and Philosophical Approaches
      • Scientific Approaches to the Natural World
      • Understanding Human Institutions and Behaviors
    • Thematic Transdisciplinary Clusters
      • The student's secondary degree amounts to a second major.
    • Foreign Language Requirement
      • The student must first consult with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences

For more information regarding Reenrollees, contact Susan Thornhill, Office of the Registrar, at (910) 962-2145 or thornhills@uncw.edu.
