Frequently Asked Questions

Where is financial aid?

The UNCW Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid is located in the Warwick Center. Also, we recommend you visit the Newly Admitted Students page on the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid website for answers to other financial questions you may have.

How do I file for FAFSA?

If you have not done so, you should complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. To sign the FAFSA online, you will need a federal Personal Identification Number (PIN), so be sure to visit the PIN website. Both you and, if you are still a dependent, one of your parents must sign the FAFSA.

How do I qualify for financial aid?

To qualify for federal financial aid, as well as many other forms of financial aid, you must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student or in a qualified certification program. You may not receive financial aid for audited classes or classes that do not count towards your degree or certification. Check the UNCW Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid.

How do I pay for books with financial aid?

Buying books is the student's responsibility. You should plan to buy your own books ahead of time. UNCW financial aid does not allow you to purchase textbooks and charge it to your UNCW account. You should be prepared to purchase textbooks with personal funds in case financial aid refunds are delayed. Financial aid refunds are not available before the first week of classes each term.

Do I have to apply for financial aid every year?

A new FAFSA must be completed each year.

What does my One Card do and where can I use it?

Besides allowing you to check out books at Randall Library, access meal plans at campus dining locations, it also allows you to ride on WAVE Transit Seahawk Shuttles for free. Put money on the One Card and it turns into a Seahawk Buck$ card, which is a debit card that can be used around campus. Leave campus and the UNCW One Card is your passport to off-campus savings at restaurants, stores, banks and more through the Seahawk Saving$ program.

How do I put money in the Seahawk Buck$ account?

You may make deposits to your Seahawk Buck$ account with a Visa/MasterCard via our Seahawk Buck$ Online Management Center at uncwonecard.blackboard.com; with cash, check or other bank card in the Auxiliary Services Office in the Warwick Center; with cash, at the Seahawk Buck$ kiosks in Randall Library and Fisher University Union; during orientation sessions for parents; by mailing a check to: Auxiliary Services Attn: UNCW One Card 601 S. College Rd. Wilmington, NC 28403

How do I replace the One Card if I lose it and how much does it cost to replace it?

All replacement cards are $20. For students, the fee will be charged to your Student Account. Immediately report if a card is lost or stolen so that the card may be deactivated. You can report your lost or stolen card by going online https://busaff.uncw.edu/auxiliary/suspendonecard/Index.cfm to suspend your card and then visit or call the Auxiliary Services office in Warwick Center at 910-962-3560 during normal business hours, or, if outside normal business hours, by visit or call University Police at 910-962-2222.

What are Food Dollars?

Food Dollars work as a debit card and may be used at any food service location on campus, but may not be used in vending machines. If you are on a meal plan and use your Food Dollars, you will not be charged tax. Food Dollars are rolled over from the Fall to Spring Semester. Any unused Food Dollars at the end of the spring semester or Summer Session II are lost. Food Dollars are also rolled over from Summer I to Summer II. For more information on campus dining and meal plan or Food Dollar options, please visit www.uncw.edu/dining.
