Enjoy an Active Music Series
Students in UNCW’s Department of Music study with a dedicated faculty of internationally recognized artists and teachers while enjoying small class sizes and extensive performance opportunities. The small student-to-teacher ratio enables individual attention to be the department’s hallmark. Fall 2006, the department will move into a new, state-of-the art music facility in the Cultural Arts Building, currently under construction on campus.
UNCW’s Department of Music hosts a wide variety of musical entertainment throughout the year, including student and faculty recitals, the UNCW Big Band and UNCW Jazz Band concerts, the UNCW Chamber Singers, the Wind Symphony and Chamber Winds concerts, and the NCW Flute Choir and the UNCW Saxophone Ensemble. Most of these concerts are held in Kenan Auditorium unless otherwise noted and are open to the public. For a list of events, visit the department Web site.
The Annual UNCW Guest Artist Jazz Festival
During the summer, the UNCW Jazz Program hosts an annual guest artist jazz festival that provides an opportunity for students to participate in master classes and clinics, as well as perform with world-class jazz artists, such as Bob Berg, Marvin Stamm, Rufus Reid, Ingrid Jensen, Ed Shaughnessy, Vincent Herring, Denis DiBlasio, and Slide Hampton.
