UNCW CROSSROADS

Experience CROSSROADS – Kids Teaching Kids About Drugs!

Middle school students like you can begin now to get ready for high school!  A good way to start is to learn ways to deal with peer pressure to use drugs.  CROSSROADS High School is a fun and active program that helps students make smart and healthy choices about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.  Led by 9th grade peer educators and their health teachers, CROSSROADS teaches real skills that students can use everyday!

 

WHAT (Wilmington Health Access for Teens)

It Won’t Happen to Me

This training provides participants with the information on rising teen health concerns.  Myths and misinformation that young people hear everyday will be dispelled.  Youth can walk away with the skills and knowledge to make healthier decisions and live better lives.

Tobacco 101

Also known as TATU (Teens Against Tobacco Use), this training provides youth with the basics of tobacco use prevention education.  This training helps create awareness of the tobacco use problem.  Youth leave with the knowledge and resources needed to conduct their own educational sessions for their peers, younger students and even adults.


Pearl Girls Academy

Body Image

This topic allows girls to see how the media influences their expectations of themselves and others. This phase of the program serves as a powerful tool for girls to use in building a strong positive body image, no matter what her shape, size, color or stature. "What's Polluting You?" is a key activity that focuses on substance and food abuse, the causes and consequences.


Travis Corpening – Keynote Speaker

Accomplish What You Are Destined To Be

This presentation focuses on inspiring each student to findtheir gifts and talents and to use themto achieve success in their school and personal life.During the breakout sessions, students will participate in an interactive exercise to teach them to think in the proper way and to put these principles into practice.
