Thank you for considering sending your child to our Engineering Expectations summer programs. We strive to provide the best possible experience for your child during their time at Engineering Expectations. In order to ensure a quality experience, we have created a variety of different programs that are suited for appropriate ages and maturity levels.

Sports Engineering *Returning Summer 2018!

Ever wonder how a football got its unique shape? Or why a golf ball has dimples? Find answers to these questions and more during our sports engineering camp. Learn how tennis rackets have evolved to today's standards and engineer your own using materials engineering. Explore how helmets help absorb momentum transfer and engineer a helmet for a specific sport to help protect the player from injuries.  Discover why Nike owes it success to a waffle iron as you engineer a pair of athletic shoes. Investigate how engineers help improve athletes performance in all aspects of their sports from the ground up – literally! Engineered fields, tracks, courts – even dance floors.

Civil Engineering

Start the week by reliving the origins of civil engineering as you create an aqueduct and a trebuchet. Learn what types of problems civil engineers might work to solve. Throughout the week we will complete more engineering design challenges based on public works such as buildings and bridges. On Friday, we will conclude the week by focusing on the Grand Challenge of Engineering: Restoring and Improving Urban Infrastructure. Then you will have the opportunity to work in teams to plan your own city with engineering in mind.

Mechanical Engineering

Gear up for a powerful week of engineering fun as you gain a mechanical advantage this summer. Learn how mechanical engineers use the principles of force and motion to design, build and operate machines with moving parts. Investigate the impacts of friction on design performance. Utilize hydraulics and pneumatics in your designs to lift an object. Capture potential, kinetic and vibrational energy to move your engineering designs.

Aerospace Engineering

Spend a week with aerospace engineering camp and experience firsthand the principles of flight as you learn to "fly" in a vertical wind tunnel. Use the understanding you gain from your body flight to improve the lift and thrust of the planes you design. Learn how to minimize drag and introduce elements of flight control into your designs. Test your wing design in a wind tunnel that you engineer. Become familiar with the Grand Challenges of Engineering while "engineering a tool of scientific discovery" that might help in future space exploration.
