Human Resources

Policy Details:

1. Purpose

   This policy establishes guiding principles for the recruitment, selection, and hiring practices for all UNCW positions that are Subject to the North Carolina State Human Resources Act ("SHRA"). The intent of this policy is to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations including those prohibiting discrimination and in accordance with applicable affirmative action plans and UNCW Policy 02.230 Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action. 
   

2. Recruitment Policy

   1. It is the policy of UNCW to meet its workforce needs through selection procedures designed to identify, attract, select, employ, and develop the human resources necessary for present and future work requirements. All permanent and time-limited SHRA positions must be recruited through Human Resources. UNCW is committed to employing and promoting those persons whose education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities best match the requirements of the positions for which they have applied.

   2. UNCW follows the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources policies on the recruitment and selection of employees for positions that are subject to the North Carolina Human Resources Act. These policies are available in the State Human Resources Manual and via the following links below.

3. Record Retention

   Applications and search related materials are confidential materials under State law and should be maintained in accordance with the UNC System Records Retention and Disposition Schedule. Generally, printed application materials, interview notes, and other search-related materials should be retained for a period of three years after the date the position is filled and then destroyed in office if no charge of discrimination has been filed. Search committee members should send such documents to the search chair for retention.
