Since 2002, the UNCW History Department has hosted the Sherman Emerging Scholar Lecture Series, an annual lecture series established to honor two lifelong learners and friends of the department, Virginia and Derrick Sherman.
On Oct 14, 2026, Eva Landsberg will deliver the 25th annual Sherman Lecture. The lecture will be followed by a roundtable discussion on Oct. 15 with distinguished scholars Christian Koot, Linda Rupert, Jordan Smith and moderator David Houpt.
The 2026 Sherman Scholar is Eva Landsberg
Eva Landsberg is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Cincinnati, where she teaches courses on Revolutionary North America’s political, economic, and cultural connections to the wider world. She is completing her first book, which explores the connections between the economics of Caribbean sugar and the issues of imperial rule that gave birth to the American Revolution.
