Spring 2018 Lambda Alpha Application Deadline:

February 15, 2018


  • 3.3 UNCW GPA/3.5 Anthropology GPA
  • Junior status (60 hrs or more)
  • 12 hours in anthropology at UNCW at the 200 level or higher
  • At least one UNCW Anthropology course at the 300 level or higher.

*Membership is open twice a year, Fall and Spring.

What to submit?

  • A printout of your transcript from Seanet
  • A letter of interest that includes your name, address, phone or e-mail address, and GPA in both Anthropology and overall.

Where to submit?

Please submit all application materials to Dr. Reber or Ross Whisenant in the Anthropology department office by 5 PM on February 15, 2018.

Spring 2018 Scholarship/Award Opportunities!

Lambda Alpha $5,000 scholarship opportunity!

  • Current Lambda Alpha member
  • Eligible graduating senior by end of the academic year
Materials to submit:

1. A letter of nomination from the department or appropriate academic unit stating the candidate is applying for the National Scholarship.

2. Curriculum vitae.

3. A statement signed by the applicant, located on page 4, giving permission to the National Executive Council members to view submitted transcripts.

4. One official, original academic transcript and 3 copies of transcripts of all undergraduate institutions attended by the applicant.

5. Two (2) supporting letters of recommendation; one letter must be from a professional anthropologist (4 copies each). The letters should be forwarded to the faculty sponsor by the letter writers to include in the application packet.

6. A statement of future professional plans limited to one page or less, single spaced. (4 copies)

7. A document must be submitted in manuscript form, double spaced, no less than 10 pages in length, that is ready for consideration for publication in the Lambda Alpha Journal. (4 copies). The purpose is to evaluate formal writing skills, and the ability to compose a research paper. Original thesis manuscripts, previously published papers, co-authored publications and contract archaeological reports are not acceptable. Please submit the required original manuscript in a pdf file on a CD, thumb drive, or flash drive and any associated graphics.

50th Anniversary Lambda Alpha Founder’s Student Paper Competition

Undergraduate Student Category ($1,500 total)

1st Place Award, $700
2nd Place Award, $400
3rd Place Award, $300
Honorable Mention Awards, $25 each, 4 awards $100 total Awarded to the 4th to 7th applicants selected by the judges.

The winning papers will be considered for publication in a 50th anniversary commemorative issue of the Lambda Alpha Journal.
