Diversity and Inclusion Specialist

Kimberly McLaughlin-SmithMs. Kimberly McLaughlin-Smith, diversity and inclusion specialist, facilitates workshops, trainings, lectures, and presentations on topics surrounding diversity and inclusion. Diversity Education modules and trainings are tailored to meet the varied and specific needs of faculty, staff, and students. She provides communication strategies, engages audiences in discussions on the subject of diversity, and provides resources on a variety of cultural competencies. She is responsible for providing diversity training through the Office of Human Resources Dare to Learn Academy, as well as new employee orientation, residential advisors training, and other areas, including UNI classes and various departmental requests to implement diversity and inclusion into curricula. Kimberly’s role allows her to assist UNCW's Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. Kent Guion, in leading diversity initiatives while also influencing organizational culture and the challenges of leading growth and development on our campus.

Helping campus partners to better infuse their practices with intention, authenticity and mindfulness, can sometimes be difficult to achieve in the context of fast-paced organizational needs and demands. Kimberly meets the challenge head-on daily with commitment to creating a meaningful impact.

A variety of programs are offered during the academic year and for individual departments during the summer. Please check the Dare to Learn Academy or email Ms. McLaughlin-Smith for information about upcoming training programs. Updates about future offeriings will be posted soon to this site.
