November 2017

Dr. Donna DeGennaro published an article in the Journal of Transformative Education titled "Toward transformative praxis: Fostering a teacher/leader/learner disposition."

Dr. William Sterrett, with Dr. Jayson Richardson, recently published an article in the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership titled "Cultivating innovation in an age of accountability: Tech-savvy leadership."

Dr. McClure, along with Ed.D. candidates Leah Frierson, Adam Hall, and Kara Ostlund, has just published a paper in the journal Philanthropy and Education. The paper is titled "Philanthropic giving by foundations to higher education institutions: A state-level social network analysis."

Caroline Courter, alumni of our doctoral program, recently renewed her National Board Certification as an Early Childhood Generalist. 

Lisa Peele, an alumni of the Educational Leadership doctoral program, was honored by the North Carolina Art Education Association as Art Educator of Year.

WILMA magazines selected Dr. Donna DeGennaro as winner of the 2017 Women to Watch Awards, in part for her nonprofit organization Unlocking Silent Histories

September 2017

Dr. Donna DeGennaro is this years recipient of the Distinguished Scholarly Engagement and Public Service award. This is the first time this an Educational Leadership faculty member was given the award and a first for Watson College.

August 2017

Laura Johnson Hercula, Ed. Leadership doctoral candidate, has been awarded Educator of the Year at Coastal Carolina Community College for 2017-2018.

Dr. Jennifer Ann Whittington, Alumni of UNCW's Education Leadership doctoral program, has received the Excellence in Teaching Award from Bladen Community College. Dr. Whittington was also recently hired as the Assistant Professor of Elementary Education and Director of Recruitment and Retention at the University of North Carolina Pembroke.

Shannon Alford, doctoral candidate, recently accepted the position of Assistant Dean of Students for Residence Life and Student Conduct at Salem College. 

Clay Smith, doctoral candidate, will present his paper concerning staff recruitment and retention in North Carolina K-12 schools at this year's American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education

Alisha Strickland, Cohort 9 Doctoral Student, recently was hired as a K-3 Remediation Teacher at Cumberland Mills Elementary. Congrats Alisha!

Dr. Robert Tyndall awarded the StarNews Lifetime Achievement Award for his many great contributions to the Wilmington area. 

UNCW Education Leadership Doctorate Alumni Edith Skipper will be principal of the new Southeast Area Technical High school (known as SEA-Tech)

Shannon Gunter is a third year Ed.D. student working on Curriculum and Instruction. For the 2015-2016 academic year, she was awarded the Jay Robinson Scholarship, a scholarship made possible by the friends of Dr. Robinson, and the Lewis Wiley Alumni Scholarship, funded by the UNCW Alumni Association.

Dr. Marc Bergin '15, who completed his Ed.D. in Summer 2015, became the Chief of Staff for the school division for Virginia Beach City Public Schools shortly after completing his doctorate. He was formerly the Deputy Superintendent of Moore County Schools.

Helen Gross (May '14) is the principal at Carolina Forest International Elementary in Jacksonville, N.C..

Her school is one of twenty-five being recognized in Washington, D.C. as a P21 21st Century Exemplar School.

Dr. Edelmira Segovia '12 named Interim Associate Provost for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. In 2015, Edelmira returned to her position as Director of Centro Hispano at UNC Wilmington.
