MAT in PE and Health

If you earned (or are about to) an undergraduate degree in an area other than education, but dream of being a teacher, then the Master of Arts in Teaching is for you! This 100% online program leads to a master’s degree and teacher licensure!

The Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Physical Education & Health is designed for students that already hold a bachelor's degree in a content area such as: exercise science, public health studies, recreation, sport leadership or tourism management, but have little or no background in education. Successful completion of the program will lead to NC certification (K-12) and prepare educators to teach physical education and health.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university completed before graduate study begins.
  • Official copies of transcripts of all college, university or community college work (undergraduate and graduate). Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better is recommended.
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • This program prepares individuals for North Carolina teacher certification in the area of Physical Education & Health. A letter of interest (no more than 2 pages) describing any past experiences that might prepare you for your studies and your future goals in this area is required.
  • Application and supplemental documents must be submitted by the published deadline.
