Bylaws


INTERNATIONAL FACULTY AND STAFF ASSOCIATION OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA WILMINGTON 

MISSION

International Faculty and Staff Association (IFSA) provides international faculty and staff a supportive on-campus network. It aims to increase the awareness of international issues by promoting academic and cultural programs for campus constituents and the community. The association also serves as a liaison between all international faculty and staff and the UNCW administration, and it offers a forum for discussions on teaching, professional development, research, mentoring, wellness, and integration to the UNCW community.

MEMBERSHIP

IFSA is open for membership to all UNCW employees who support the Association’s mission and initiatives as outlined by the Bylaws. Members may vote, hold office, and serve on committees. Potential members are required to complete a membership form in order to maintain association records. Membership in this organization may be terminated with or without cause.

OFFICERS

The Executive Committee of the organization shall consist of six officers: two Co-Chairs, a Treasurer, a Secretary, and a Publicity Chair.

Faculty Co-Chair and Staff Co-Chair

  • Chair meetings of the Executive Committee and the Association
  • Serve as official and institutional requirements liaison
  • Represent the association at functions and meetings
  • Act as spokesperson for the group when necessary
  • Create subcommittees and assigns leadership when necessary
  • Compile activity report for the year

Secretary

  • Takes and keeps minutes of meetings
  • Prepares the agenda for meetings of the Executive Committee and the Association in consultation with the Co-Chairs
  • Maintains the membership list
  • Assists Co-Chairs with Association correspondence
  • Collects and circulates relevant information in consultation with the Co-Chairs
  • Maintains organized records and PR materials that can be transferred to future officers

Treasurer

  • Supervises the financial affairs of the Association
  • Keeps proper accounts that show all monies collected and paid out by the Association
  • Maintains organized records that can be transferred to future officers

Publicity Chair

  • Designs publicity materials and disseminates information
  • Creates and maintains Facebook closed group page
  • Designs and supervises IFSA Website
  • Requests OUR (Office of University Relations) services as needed
  • Documents coverage of events (articles, photos, etc.)

TENURE OF OFFICERS

Officers shall be elected for one (1) academic year. Officers shall serve for as many terms as they are elected.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Candidates shall be decided by nominations in the meeting prior to the elections. Self-nominations are allowed. Election of officers shall take place in March of each academic year. Confirmation of all officers shall be held by majority of the voting membership present at the meeting. Voting shall be taken by secret ballot. Newly elected officers shall transition into office at the last regular meeting of the spring semester.

REMOVAL OF OFFICERS

Elected officers may be removed if they miss three consecutive Executive Committee meetings or for cause by 2/3 vote of the membership.

VOTING

A quorum for voting shall consist of 5 association members. Decisions shall be made by simple majority.

MEETINGS

Association meetings shall be held monthly during the fall and the spring semesters. 

AMENDMENTS

The Bylaws shall be reviewed annually by the Executive Committee, who in turn, shall make suggestions for changes during the spring semester.  Additionally, any IFSA member may suggest changes to the Bylaws. Members will vote on changes in the Bylaws during the first regular meeting of the fall semester.  Changes in the Bylaws may be approved by simple majority of votes.
