Request for Academic Conference Sponsorship with Group Registration UNCW Office of Faculty Affairs

UNCW is interested in supporting national and international academic conferences. These events allow UNCW to raise its visibility and prestige in various academic communities and provide UNCW faculty and students the opportunity to participate in an academic conference experience that they may not otherwise have had. The Academic Conference Sponsorship with Group Registration Fund is an Office of Faculty Affairs fund established to assist faculty, departments, and colleges with costs associated with group registration and sponsorship at national and international conferences.

How to Apply

Faculty should submit a proposal to the attention of the Provost (provost@uncw.edu) in electronic form. The proposal should include the following elements:

  1. Overview of the conference to be hosted, including (1) links to conference home page and program; (2) importance to the field and UNCW’s strategic plan; and, (3) any other pertinent information about the conference that might be relevant for application reviewers.
  2. A brief statement from the requesting faculty member, including (1) how UNCW faculty may be recruited to attend, an expected number of UNCW faculty to attend, and names if appropriate; and, (2) any mention of any other UNCW sponsorship which may fund the conference and faculty participation.
  3. A list of promotional opportunities to showcase UNCW, its faculty, and programs. Note that preference is given to applications where SOCC funding is used to support UNCW student and faculty attendance. Other allowable costs include direct costs related to hosting the conference (for example, space rental costs, publication costs, technology-related costs, or special speaker honoraria). Office of Faculty Affairs funding should not be used to directly reduce or cover thecosts of attendance for non-UNCW attendees (e.g. paying for travel for non-UNCW attendees to attend the conference or paying for meals for non-UNCW attendees).

Eligibility

All full-time faculty are eligible to apply.

Application Deadline & Award Limit

This is a rolling program and has no deadline. Applications will be received and reviewed as the budget allows. Awards will normally be limited to $5,000 or less per application, even if the application includesmultiple faculty co-applicants.

Decision Making

Decisions will be made within three weeks of the receipt of a proposal. Decisions will be made by the Provost and the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs, with input from others as needed.
