UNCW General Counsel John Scherer has been elected an at-large member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) Board of Directors, a nationally recognized organization dedicated to advancing the practice of higher education law and supporting legal professionals who serve colleges and universities.

NACUA brings together attorneys and higher education leaders from institutions across the U.S. to address emerging legal issues, share best practices and promote excellence in the governance and administration of colleges and universities. The organization also provides opportunities to serve in a variety of speaking and volunteer roles. Scherer will serve a three-year term.

“I look forward to giving back to this great organization in this leadership role, and I am honored and privileged to serve with such a talented and committed group of NACUA leaders, staff, officers and board members,” he said.

NACUA represents more than 850 accredited, nonprofit colleges and universities across the U.S. and internationally, encompassing at least 1,650 campuses that collectively serve more than 8 million students. The organization also serves more than 5,000 attorneys working in higher education and includes associate members such as higher education associations, university foundations, research institutes, libraries, museums and athletic conferences. Its membership spans all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and several countries around the world.
