UNCW Earns National Recognition as Enrollment Reaches Record High

UNCW academic programs have, once again, earned national recognition in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, with several programs making significant strides. 

The university’s undergraduate computer science program rose 85 spots to #276 nationally, marking the largest year-over-year increase among UNCW programs included in the rankings. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program climbed 23 spots to #75, while undergraduate psychology advanced 28 spots to #207. The Cameron School of Business undergraduate program is ranked #230 nationally. 

“The progress reflected in these rankings is a testament to the outstanding work happening across UNCW,” said Chancellor Aswani Volety. “Our faculty and staff are deeply committed to student success, and the growing national recognition of our academic programs reinforces the quality and impact of the educational experience we provide.” 

Institutionally, UNCW is ranked #116 among Top Public Schools and #219 among National Universities, both tied. The university also maintained its #220 ranking among Top Performers on Social Mobility. 

The latest rankings add to other recent recognition for UNCW. In June, the university was named one of Money’s Best Colleges in America for 2026, a list that evaluates colleges based on factors including quality, affordability and student outcomes. 

The accolades come as UNCW marks another year of record-breaking enrollment, with 20,556 students enrolled this fall, including 3,364 first-year students. Last fall, UNCW enrolled 19,895 students, then an all-time high.
