Each semester, the Watson College welcomes prospective students to Future Teacher events and Virtual Information Sessions—a great way to learn more about our programs and connect with the college.

Throughout the academic year, we also offer conferences, professional development opportunities, and educational programs for teachers, community college leaders, and members of the broader community. We hope you’ll join us for an upcoming event!


Virtual Information Sessions – Pathway to Principal

Join Program Coordinator Kim Jamison to learn about our master’s and add-on licensure programs for aspiring school principals. Virtual information sessions will be held:

  • Tuesday, October 13 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 15, 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 27: 6 p.m.

Spark of Joy – October 16

The Teaching with Joy Network is building community among educators with presentations, professional development, and ‘Spark of Joy’ meet-ups.

The next “Spark of Joy” teacher meet-up will be held at Wilmington Brewing Company on Friday, October 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Educators PK-20 interested in bringing more joy into their classrooms and their lives are invited to attend.


Scholastic Book Fair – Nov 2 – 6

WCE’s Curriculum Materials Center will host a Scholastic Book Fair November 2-6  in the atrium of Sayed Hall.

The fair will be open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m, to 2 p.m. This free event is open to the public—we hope to see you there!


Future Teacher Conference – November 13

The Future Teacher Conference invites high school, community college and home school students to spend a day at UNCW exploring education as a career. Participants will experience life as a Watson student through interactive sessions led by faculty and staff, tailored to students’ interests. Back by popular demand, the event also features a student panel discussion. The conference is free and will be held November 13.

School administrators interested in bringing a group of students, or students interested in attending should contact Dean Heath at heatht@uncw.edu.


Challenging the Paradigm Conference – February 11-12, 2027

UNCW’s Watson College will host the 2027 UNCW/3C Challenging the Paradigm Conference February 111-12 on the UNCW campus. The theme of the event is “Navigating Change Through Partnership and Collaboration in Uncertain Times.”

The conference brings together community college faculty and staff, university faculty and staff, and others who are interested in learning, growing, and challenging the paradigm with innovative and transformative practices. Each year, the focus is on the partnerships among community colleges, universities and the community.
