Notice From University Police Regarding Reported Incident Off-Campus

November 16, 2017

Dear Campus Community,

This afternoon, a female UNCW student reported that between 9:00 and 9:15 a.m. today, she was walking along Heidi Drive, south of the campus near the Wood Dale Drive entrance, when a male driving a newer model, dark grey full-sized two-door pick-up, possibly a Chevrolet, approached her. The man allegedly grabbed the student; she was able to break loose and run away. He did not pursue her. The man was described as a darker-skinned Hispanic male, 30-35 years old, approximately 5'8" with a mustache and wearing a sweatshirt and jeans. The UNCW Police Department and Wilmington Police Department are sharing information as this case develops. Anyone who may have information is encouraged to contact UPD (910.962.2222) or WPD (dial 911).

As always students should remember to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times, and to reach out to UPD or take advantage of other university resources designed to protect our community: https://uncw.edu/care/
