Matthew J. Peterson
Professor
Matthew Peterson, PhD, FGSA, is a tenured Professor in the Clinical Research Program. Dr. Peterson is an exercise scientist with expertise in aging and functional decline. He also has quantitative methods and biostatistical expertise. Dr. Peterson's current research is focused on biological and biochemical markers of impaired functioning in older adults. His lab collaborators include experimental psychologists, marine biologists, chemists, biomechanists, gerontologists, and nurses. Dr. Peterson is passionate about engaging and involving students in his research projects, and he has secured over 100k in funding at UNCW to support student-engaged research. Over his career, Dr. Peterson has led or collaborated on teams that have secured over $6 million in funding. His teaching responsibilities include biostatistics, epidemiology, scientific writing, and mentoring graduate capstone projects.
